5 Commonly Mispronounced Words

What word have you just recently found that you were actually mispronouncing?

～Before we start our first discussion, let me first welcome you to my simple and humble personal blog. It's actually my first ever blog post, so I hope you will support me on this journey and just enjoy learning! Goodluck!

So there are a lot of English words being mispronounced every day. Some words are pronounced way too far from their spelling and some words have silent letters. Of course, I'll be giving you examples of how to use these words in a sentence! Now, let's see 5 of these words that are mispronounced most of the time in the English vocabulary.


・Awry - away from what is planned or amiss.
               ''The rain made my plans for today go awry''
    
    This may seem like ''awree'', ''awrey'', or ''awray'' but it is actually pronounced as ''uh·rai''. Is it kind of confusing? I would not blame you though, as when I heard its proper pronunciation for the first time, it also left me perplexed.


・Niche - a comfortable field or position ( in life, work, and etc. )
                ''He has finally found his niche in freelancing''
    
    Many would read this as ''nitch'' but it's actually pronounced as ''neesh''.

～Have you been mispronouncing these words all this time?

・Lingerie - women's underclothes or nightclothes.
                     ''I think I need to buy new lingerie today''
   
    I actually found this a little bit difficult to pronounce, but I like the way it is being pronounced. If you think it reads like ''ling-a-ree'' then you're wrong. It is actually ''laan·zhr·ay''. You are probably questioning its complicated pronunciation right now!


・Cache - storing a way in hiding or store (data) in a cache memory.
                  ''I must cache these pennies'' or ''I think I should clear my TikTok's cache now''

    This one may look simple but is too different when pronounced. That's why many people have been mispronouncing this word a lot. It is ''kash'' or ''cash'' not ''cashey'' nor ''ka-chee''.


・Pronunciation - how you say a word or the way words are pronounced.
                               ''The pronunciation of ''awry'' is ''uh·rai''

    This word may seem too easy when seen or when just looked at, but it is actually one of the most mispronounced words in the English vocabulary. Many people mistake it not just for how it is pronounced but also for its spelling. They misspelled ''pronunciation'' as ''pronounciation'' with the ''o'' and that is the reason why when it is time to say the word they would say ''pruh·nu(w)hn·see·ay·shn'' instead of ''pruh·nuhn·see·ay·shn''.

"Imagine living in a small community and unexpectedly, an outbreak of something inexplicable happens." A special book review of Anne Ursu's "Spilling Clarence" Didn't expect this book to be this good. The story is kind of simple, but I liked it! Imagine living in a small community and unexpectedly, an outbreak of something inexplicable happens. Today's world can relate to this book since we are currently facing the pandemic, but it differs from the fatality as the spilled chemical/element they called "deletrium" doesn't kill, but it somewhat makes you feel depressed. Still not good, of course. Also, it only circles inside the small community of Clarence.
